The US CMA exam is divided into two parts. Part 1: Financial Planning, Performance, and Analytics and Part 2: Strategic Financial Management. The duration of each exam is 4 hours. Both exams consist of 100 multiple-choice questions, each worth 4 marks, and 2 essay questions, each worth 50 marks, totaling 500 marks. The exam includes 3 hours for the multiple-choice section and 1 hour for the essay questions. It is a computer based exam (CBE) and one cannot reach the essay section until one scores 50% in the multiple choice section. Scores range from 0 to 500, with a minimum passing score of 360 required for each part. Multiple-choice questions account for 75% of the total score, while essay questions contribute 25%.
